Accountability begins NOW

We've all been there. We KNOW we need to lose a few (or more) pounds. We know the way to do it is diet and exercise. We know it, and sometimes we even resolve to do something about it. That works for a little while and then...we slack. And then we lapse entirely. And the cycle begins all over.

So I decided on a whim to DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. I know how to work out, how to eat right and drink water and do all those weight-loss things. but the fact is, most of the time I just don't. Why? Because I am only accountable to myself.

The best I ever did was when I was working out regularly with my trainer, Kristin. I knew I'd have to face her, and that I would suffer for not doing my prescribed cardio and so I did it. And - predictably - I got results! No magic there, but it fueled my motivation - for a while.

And then, training got to be outside my budget. So what happened? I slacked. A lot. And then I'd pick up, and drop off, and try again, and fail again. It got very discouraging. And then, one day...

I read a blog post by an absolutely AMAZING friend. (check it out for yourself at http://www.signingtime.com/rachel/2009/07/24/strong-enough-to-be-your-mom-part-2/ and I promise you will see why it inspired me).

So while I don't live close enough to help Lucy get around (though you can bet I would love to, any day of the week!), I will anyway. I will lift anyway. I will do all those things because I need to do them.

Thanks to Twitter, my friends are ready to rally around me and make me do this when I lose my nerve. In truth, I am afraid of @pezalicious one almost as much as I feared Kristin!

So it begins tonight. I have committed to get my first workout in this evening, and I will. I will post here my stats (ugh) and each day my steps taken, calories burned, and calories eaten. I will post when I work out.

And let us hope that we will see results! I am working hard on audition pieces for the upcoming production of RENT at my local theatre, and I have a long way to go to my Mimi body!
